After taking serial reading tests in Swedish, called "Boris-tests" my students (year 1) got interested in the story and wanted to read the whole book. Never one to let them down I promptly found the book - but in English. Since this particular class is a fun-loving crowd up for most things they happily started reading and from what I hear, they are enjoying the experience!
The language is easy and the tale dramatic. Personally, I find the narrative and characterization a bit too simplistic and straight-forward. This is, however, a good novel for the Swedish A-course in English.
